NEW YORK CITY - Game one in the 2K Classic ensured there would be no rematch of last year’s national championship meeting. Georgetown defeated Wisconsin, 71-61, at Madison Square Garden to advance to Sunday’s final. Duke will face VCU in the second semifinal.
At the half, it was a 32-possession game, not surprising pace-wise, with neither team lighting up the calculators.
Offensive Efficiency: Georgetown 84, Wisconsin 69
The second half saw the Hoyas in command, never relinquishing the lead and showing a much better performance on the offensive end. The second half numbers:

What Georgetown did well: Shoot. The high eFG percentage came not only from the nine three-pointers, as there were a succession of backdoor opportunities off high post passes that the Badgers just did not adjust to defending.
What Wisconsin did well: Rebound. They won the offensive rebound percentage battle, outrebounding the Hoyas 18-8 on the offensive end. Overall, Wisconsin enjoyed a 40-36 rebounding advantage.

Wisconsin: Nigel Hayes (22 points, 14 efficiency)
Georgetown: Isaac Copeland (15 points, 16 efficiency)
Georgetown placed four in double figures. On a defensive note, the Hoyas forced Bronson Koenig of Wisconsin into a 9-point night on 2-of-12 shooting. The Hoyas had a huge advantage in bench scoring, 31-2. Defense was especially pleasing to Georgetown coach John Thompson III. The defensive efficiency of 88 is a testament to the quality of work on that end of the floor.
