Yale 53, Saint Peter's 45: Ray Floriani's Tempo-Free Analysis

Jersey City, NJ ­- Missed opportunities. The Saint Peter's women had a chance to get a nonconference victory, only to come up empty on several crucial possessions down the stretch, as Yale posted a 53-45 victory at the Yanitelli Center. The Ivy League representatives improved to 6-8, while Saint Peter's is now 1-14. The pace and efficiency:

Possessions: Yale 70, Saint Peter's 69

Offensive Efficiency: Yale 76, Saint Peter's 65

What Yale did well: Defend, which included forcing Saint Peter's into a ridiculously high 39% TO rate (27 turnovers). Granted, Saint Peter's was guilty of some unforced errors, but a good deal were the result of a Yale defense that blocked 7 shots, came up with 7 steals and kept Saint Peter's at under 40% shooting from the floor.

What Saint Peter's did well: It was deceptive. They had a higher offensive rebounding percentage, but in the stretch, Saint Peter's was guilty of missing box out assignments and not getting to a few crucial rebounds. They did get bench contributions, and outscored Yale 22-13 in that category.

Saint Peter's: Antonia Smith, 13 points

Efficiency Leaders:

Yale: Katie Werner, 14

Saint Peter's: Antonia Smith, 13

Tamara Simpson of Yale had an 11 efficiency. Werner grabbed the top spot due to her 10 points and 7 rebounds. Smith shot 5-of-11 from the floor and tied for game high rebounding honors, grabbing seven from her guard spot.

Yale had four in double figures, though Simpson did appreciable damage, finishing a few key late game penetrations. Interestingly, Yale only had a 17-­16 edge in points off turnovers. The damage was done as over one of three possessions by Saint Peter's wound up as an empty trip down the floor.
