Ray Floriani's Tempo-Free MAAC Notes

A Happy New Year look at the MAAC. All games (through January 1st) are factored with numbers courtesy of bbstate.com:

Efficiency Margin Leaders:
1) Iona, 7
2) Canisius, 5
3) Saint Peter’s, 4
4) Quinnipiac, 3

Leading Offensive Efficiency:
1) Iona, 111
2) Siena, 105
3) Quinnipiac, 101

Best Defenses:
1) Canisius, 89
2) Manhattan, 93
3) Saint Peter's, 93

Fastest pace: (possessions per game)
1) Iona, 76
2) Marist, 69.6
3) Siena, 69.4

Most Deliberate Paced Offenses:
1) Saint Peter's, 60.7
2) Fairfield, 64.2
3) Monmouth, 64.2

Interesting note: Tim Cluess’ Iona Gaels push the ball, but not at the expense of caring for it. Iona is second in turnover rate, (16.4%) trailing only Canisius at 14.5%.

Also, Saint Peter’s is still showing the deliberate style and good defense under coach John Dunne. The improvement is needed on the offensive end.

At 1-11 and 0-2 in conference, it remains to be seen if uptempo Marist puts the breaks on and adopts a more pedestrian pace as conference play progresses.
